13 unauthorized colonies of Jamia Nagar get NOC from ASI

New Delhi: In a move which will pave the way for all the 20 unauthorized colonies in Jamia Nagar to get authorized, the Delhi Circle of Archeological Survey of India has given 13 of them No Objection certificate (NOC) while ordering “total station method” for the rest.

In a letter dated 9th of November, KK Muhammad, Superintending Archaeologist of Delhi Circle of ASI, has informed the ministry of Urban Development, government of Delhi about its decision to provide NOC to 13 colonies in Muslim-dominated Jamia Nagar.

These 13 colonies are Noor Nagar, Noor Nagar Extension Phase 1, Okhla Vihar, Abul Fazal Enclave (Main), Abul Fazal Enclave (from Block E to Block N), Abul Fazal Enclave Part 2 Block E and Block G, Abul Fazal Enclave Part 2 Shahin Bagh, Ghaffar Manzil Extension, Ghaffar Manzil Extension 2, Taimur Nagar Extension, Taimur Nagar Kapasia Mohalla, Extension Area Taimur Nagar and Nai Basti.

The 7 colonies where “total station method” has been ordered are Zakir Nagar Main, Zakir Nagar West, H Block of Zakir Nagar, Batla House, Joga Bai, Mahboob Nagar, and Batla House Khalilullah Masjid.

Total Station Method which is a way of aerial survey has been ordered because land survey of these 7 colonies was found impossible by the concerned authorities.

In Delhi out of 1639 unauthorized colonies there were 64 colonies where ASI expressed the possibility of having “protected monument” because of which the agency had not issued NOC for any developmental activities in and around those colonies.

Out of those 64, Jamia Nagar had its share of 20 colonies. Now with 13 getting NOC and 7 getting surveyed again the first and foremost obstacle in getting authorized has gone.

Importantly no colony can be authorized without it getting NOC from the ASI.

Ways for development open

Although the area is many steps before getting authorized this NOC becomes very important milestone for the infrastructural and civic development of Jamia Nagar because now the concerned colonies of this area become eligible for getting development funds from the Delhi government.

Without the ASI NOC the government doesn’t recognize and allow any developmental work let alone sanctioning any funds for the development.

It’s important to mention here that in the absence of ASI NOC in most part of Jamia Nagar area there are no drinking water and sewer lines because of which the residents have to face a series of problems year after year.

Talking to TwoCircles.net Asif Mohammad Khan, MLA of Jamia Nagar (Okhla Assembly segment) expressed happiness at the “welcoming move.”

“Now we will see development funds getting sanctioned for things like road, sewer and water lines in these 13 colonies,” said Mr. Khan.
