Oslo : Former US Vice President and 2007 Nobel Peace laureate Al Gore, 59, told Norwegian broadcaster NRK on Wednesday that he was not planning to run for the Democrats in the next presidential election.

“I don’t have plans to be a candidate again,” Gore told NRK five days after he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in Oslo together with the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Speculation about a possible second candidature for Gore – after having been narrowly defeated by President George W. Bush in 2000 – had been intensifying after he received the prize.

However, Gore said: “I don’t really see it in that context at all. I’m involved in another kind of campaign.”
