Cairo : Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak met visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan on Thursday morning for talks on regional issues and bilateral relations.
During the meeting at the presidential palace, Mubarak and Babacan discussed the developments in the Middle East, including the situation on the Iraqi-Turkish borders and a number of other regional issues of mutual concern, according to the Egyptian MENA news agency.
Babacan delivered a message to Mubarak from Turkish President Abdullah Gul on boosting bilateral cooperation in various fields in addition to the latest regional developments, the report quoted a high-level Turkish diplomatic source as saying.
The Turkish top diplomat, who arrived here Thursday morning on a two-day visit to Egypt, is also scheduled to hold talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef, Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa among others.
The talks are expected to tackle two conferences, namely an expanded conference on Iraq due to be held in Istanbul, Turkey on October 31 and the U.S.-hosted international peace conference, tentatively set for November in the United States.
