Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan turned 84 Saturday and as a birthday gift wanted people with the expertise of tarring roads during rains to share their knowledge with him.

On his birthday, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader was busy attending public functions in Kozhikode, about 500 km from the state capital, where he appealed to people with expertise in tarring roads during rains to come forward and offer their services to the government.

Achuthanandan’s wife K. Vasumathy told IANS that there would be no celebrations to mark the leader’s birthday.

“He is always busy and the only celebration of any kind is that everyone here has been given a cup of payasam. His grandchildren are here but he is away and is expected only Monday,” Vasumathy said.
