Guwahati: The Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind (JUH) faction led by Maulana Arshad Madani has dissolved its Assam unit of which Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, Lok Sabha Member and chief of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), was president. While Arshad camp says Ajmal and state Jamiat were much involved in politics – that is not the goal of the religious group – Ajmal and his AIUDF party workers say the move is to divide Muslim votes and thus please ruling Congress.
In the Lok Sabha elections held in 2009, AIUDF though won seat (Dhubri won by Ajmal) the party caused defeat of Congress candidates in five Lok Sabha seats won by BJP/AGM and AIUDF came at No 2 pushing Congress at No 3 or 4.

Ajmal sacked from Jamiat following the dissolution on 8th Feb. AIUDF party workers have expressed unhappiness and termed it as a conspiracy of Congress. They alleged that Arshad has been offered Rajya Sabha seat in return of weakening Ajmal and dividing Muslim votes.
In a TV interview to a local channel, perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal termed the dissolution of the Assam unit of JUH as ‘unconstitutional’. Various sources informed that Jamiat sacked Badruddin Ajmal as president because theirs is an apolitical body while Ajmal was using undue advantage of JUH for political ends.
Ajmal’s AIUDF has already announced to contest the coming Assembly poll. It is said he refused to instruction from Jamiat chief Arshad Madani to merge with Congress. Both AIUDF and Congress heavily rely on Muslim votes, about one-third of the state voters.
