New Delhi: The Delhi government will develop a housing colony for its employees at a sprawling 42-acre plot in west Delhi at a cost of Rs.400 crore, an official said Friday.
According to the official, a 12-floor complex with 1,152 flats will be constructed in Dhirpur in the first phase.
The decision was taken in a meeting headed by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and attended by Raj Kumar Chauhan, public works department (PWD) minister, and senior Delhi government officials.
Dikshit directed the PWD to select “modern design” for the proposed colony and instructed that the flats should adhere to the green laws and concept.
The colony will have schools, playgrounds, market, two-level underground parking facility with space for 1,932 cars, rainwater harvesting system and a plant for recycling of water, the official said.
“The reason for constructing quarters for employees is to provide accommodation for those who have been staying in rented accommodations,” the official said.
The phase-I of the project is expected to be completed within three years. The PWD will construct 1,102 flats in the second phase with parking space for 1,942 vehicles.
The colony will have access to public transport system and Azadpur metro station will be 1.3 km away from the proposed site.
