New Delhi : The Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded that the Sri Krishna Commission Report on Telangana should be rejected as its observations and recommendations were wrong and impractical.

“Its recommendations are not practical. This report should be rejected (just) as Fazal Ali’s recommendations were rejected in 1955,” CPI deputy general secretary Sudhakar Reddy said.

Participating in a roundtable discussion on ‘Telangana: Current Dynamics’ here, organised by the Observer Research Foundation, Reddy described the Sri Krishna report as a big disappointment.

“I say it is a big disappointment not because it did not approve Telangana but the way they tried to deal with the issue. There were lots of confusion and contradictory remarks. There was no cohesion, there was no clarity in the report,” Reddy said.

Criticising a part of the report being kept a secret, Reddy said now the Andhra Pradesh High Court had asked the Centre to make it available to the people.

Reddy said it was better to divide the Andhra state as early as possible. “The longer the agitation continues, controversies will become stronger and animosities will grow.”

Congress MP Keshav Rao said the sentiments among people on the issue were so strong that no party, except for the Marxists, dared to oppose the Telangana movement.

Experts at the roundtable felt that it was time for the creation of a second States Reorganisation Commission to lay down a broad framework and necessary conditions to address demands for smaller states.
