New Delhi : Rwanda’s Diudone Disi and Ethopian Deriba Alemu won the Vodafone Half Marathon in the Open Elite male and female sections respectively here Sunday.
The Rwandian was always the favourite to win the title, going by current form, and he clocked 1:00:43 seconds to set a new course record. Kenyan Issac Macharia was second with 1:00:48 seconds and his compatriot Patrick Mbuvi finished third at 1:02.03 seconds.
Alemu clocked 1:10:30 seconds to finish first ahead of her compatriot Atsede Habtamu, who clocked 1:10:36 to finish second. Kenyan Alice Timbilil was third with 1:10:40 seconds.
In the men’s, world No.3 Wilson Kiprotich, also of Kenya, disappointed as he finished fourth in 1:02.04 seconds while his country mate and 2005 champion Philip Rugut was fifth with a timing of 1:02.58 seconds.
India’s Ram Singh Yadav won the race in the Indian male section and was 16th overall in the Open Elite male category with a timing of 1:06:09 seconds. Deep Chand, currently the country’s No.1 long distance runner, was second in the Indian male section and was 17th overall after he clocked 1:06:10 seconds.
Among the Indian women, Kavita Raut was first in the Indian female category and was 15th overall in the Open Elite Female category with a timing of 1:18:34 seconds. Preethi Rao came second in 1:20:38 seconds and Vaishali Chatare was third in 1:21:5 seconds.
