PM enquires about Arunachal chief minister

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday spoke to Arunachal Pradesh Governor J.J. Singh and enquired about Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu after a helicopter carrying him and four others went missing.

The prime minister, who returned to the national capital Monday evening after addressing a rally in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, was briefed by National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon about the search operations being carried out.

The prime minister has spoken to the Arunachal Pradesh governor and enquired about the chief minister, said Prime Minister’s Media Advisor Harish Khare.

A helicopter carrying Khandu and four others went missing Saturday morning shortly after take-off from Tawang. The Pawan Hans Eurocopter Ecureuil AS 350 B3 helicopter was expected to land in Itanagar, Arunachal’s capital city, at 11.30 a.m. but did not.

There was no clarity about the whereabouts of the chopper and its occupants till late Monday evening with claims that it had been traced to Bhutan denied. Search operations were being carried out on both sides of the India-Bhutan border, official sources said.
