CWG lapses: BJP alleges Delhi government trying to hide facts

By IANS,

New Delhi: A day after Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit rejected the Shunglu Committee report on the alleged delays and irregularities related to Commonwealth Games (CWG) projects, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the government was trying to hide its wrong-doings.

“The government of Delhi has many things to hide and has been working over-time to prevent skeletons from tumbling out of the closet and to divert the trail of corruption,” party spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters.

“The BJP would also like to question the move of the home ministry to send the report to the government of Delhi for its review,” he said.

Shunglu, a former comptroller and auditor general (CAG), was appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to head the probe into charges of corruption in the Commonwealth Games held last October.

“The BJP would like to know as to why an in-depth probe has not been initiated against the protagonists in the government of Delhi, especially in view of the Shunglu Committee’s findings which indicate that Dikshit had taken personal interest in clearing many of the projects,” the spokesperson said.

“It appears that Dikshit is enjoying support from quarters more powerful than the prime minister himself as she has openly questioned the probe ordered by the prime minister himself,” he added.

Dikshit Wednesday rejected the findings of the Shunglu Committee, saying that a response to the report was being sent to the home ministry.
