Three feared dead in Pakistan helicopter crash

Islamabad : Three people, including a top officer of paramilitary Punjab Rangers, were feared killed as a helicopter crashed into the Indus river in central Pakistan Wednesday morning, media reports said.

Two pilots survived by swimming to the river bank while three personnel on board, including the director-general of Punjab Rangers, Major General Muhammad Nawaz, were feared dead, reported Xinhua quoting a TV channel.

The accident took place around 10.30 a.m. shortly after the helicopter took off from Deraghazi Khan city.

The chopper was headed towards Peshawar when it crashed near the town of Kot Sultan Bhakri.

Before the helicopter crashed into the river, the pilot informed the air traffic control tower about poor visibility in the area.
