Kolkata : Even as the Indian team began to assemble for the two-day conditioning camp here Friday, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is keeping its fingers crossed, hoping the skies will hold up for the next two days.
CAB joint secretary Samar Pal told IANS: “It has rained from 5 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. today, but we are working on a war-footing and the ground is almost 70 percent ready.
“If the skies continue to hold up, the camp will get underway as scheduled. If the weather deteriorates, we will have the camp at the indoor facilities at Eden Gardens,” he said.
The Met office has predicted scattered to widespread rain in the city Friday.
Meanwhile, most of the cricketers have reached the city. The first to arrive were S. Sreesanth and fielding coach Robin Singh.
Sachin Tendulkar, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Robin Utthappa soon followed, with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and manager Lalchand Rajput not far behind.
Gautam Gambhir, who was playing a warm up match against Pakistan in Delhi Friday, will arrive Saturday. Virender Sehwag, who lost his father recently, is also expected Saturday.
