Chandigarh : The Punjab government has proposed a joint training programme of the Punjab Police with the New York Police Department (NYPD), Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said here Thursday.
The decision was taken at a meeting here chaired by the chief minister. A four-member NYPD delegation attended the meeting.
The joint police training programme will involve the Punjab police, the NYPD and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at New York’s City University.
Badal said that the training programme was being initiated to make the Punjab Police more responsive, people friendly and professionally skilled.
“It would provide a healthy and meaningful platform for both sides to exchange their expertise and experiences for good policing through organizing special interactions, seminars and camps,” he said.
He said that the programme would further enhance criminal investigation skills and develop people-friendly attitude in a result oriented manner amongst policemen.
The US delegation assured to take up the matter with the authorities concerned to launch the joint training programme.
