Baghdad : Four people were killed Monday in two separate incidents of violence in Iraq’s Mosul city, Xinhua reported.
Early in the morning, police commandos clashed with gunmen during a raid on a suspected insurgents’ haven in al-Shuhadaa neighbourhood in eastern Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, said a source on condition of anonymity.
The raid resulted in killing of three suspected insurgents and arrest of three others, the source said.
In a separate incident, a roadside bomb struck an Iraqi army patrol in Mosul’s eastern suburb of al-Karama, destroying a military vehicle and killing a soldier aboard.
The predominated Sunni Arab city of Mosul has long been a stronghold for insurgent groups, including Al Qaeda.
