New Delhi : The government is committed to linking various rivers but this will need the backing of state governments, Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H. Pala said Monday.
“The government proposed to implement (the scheme of) interlinking of rivers,” Pala said in a statement in the Rajya Sabha. “However, this is fully dependent on the consensus among states involved in each project.”
“By transferring water from a surplus basis to a water deficient basis, probelms related to irrigation and potable water can be mitigated significantly,” he said.
