CBI senior counsel K.K. Venugopal told the court that the investigating agency “may examine” Jaswant Singh, who headed the empowered group of ministers (EGOM) when Arun Shourie was the communications minister between 2003-04.

The agency said its probe in the alleged lapses in the ministry was broadly in four parts dealing with the tenures of ministers Pramod Mahajan (2002-03), Arun shourie (2003-04), Dayanidhi Maran (2004-07) and A. Raja (2007-10). There are varying degrees of alleged wrongdoing in these periods.

The CBI found little evidence of lapses during Arun Shourie’s tenure at the ministry, but there are variation in the policy and its implementation during Pramod Mahajan’s tenure and it is being further investigated, CBI counsel said.
