New Delhi : As many as 40 train accidents, including four collisions and 31 derailments, have taken place from January to July 2011, the Rajya Sabha was informed Friday.
Minister of State in Railways Bharatsinh Solanki said five derailments took place in northeastern states.
According to inquiry reports, three of these were caused due to sabotage by miscreants, one derailment happened because of failure of loco pilot, and another was caused due to failure of engineering maintenance staff.
Besides, three manned level crossing incidents and two cases of fire in train also took place in the railways, he said.
