Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Friday reserved its judgment on a public interest litigation (PIL), seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into allegations of embezzlement of funds of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) projects across Uttar Pradesh.

The bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Rituraj Awasthi reserved the judgment on a local journalist’s PIL being heard for the last two months.

“As of now, no date has been fixed for pronouncing the judgment,” a court official said. “The state government told the court that as the CAG was already conducting an audit of NRHM schemes, involving the CBI into the case would not be appropriate.”

He added that the same bench had earlier ordered a CBI inquiry into the irregularities of NRHM projects in Lucknow on the PIL filed by non-government organisation We the people.

The murders of two officials of family welfare department, Vinod Arya and B.P. Singh, are alleged to be linked to large-scale financial irregularities in NRHM programmes.

Arya and Singh were shot dead in Lucknow in Oct 2010 and April 2011, respectively.

The Uttar Pradesh government has already recommended a CBI inquiry into the two killings.
