Indian bourses show great recovery

Mumbai : Indian stock markets showed a phenomenal recovery from initial losses Monday with robust buying seen across sectors. The bourses ended the day with moderate losses, outperforming all Asian peers.

The pullback was seen in the final hour of trade that allowed the benchmark sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to close at 18,737 points, giving up 170.33 points or 0.90 percent from the previous close.

The broader S&P CNX Nifty ended at 5,617.10 points, marginally down by 46.15 points or 0.81 percent.

The BSE Bankex was up by 0.3 percent at 10,186.32 points. Bank of India, Union Bank, HDFC Bank, Centurion Bank and Bank of Baroda moved downwards.

The top gainers on Sensex were ITC Ltd, up by 5.92 percent at Rs.178.80, NTPC Ltd gaining 5.10 percent at Rs.253.45 and State Bank of India that moved up by 3.73 percent plotting at Rs.2,245.

The top losers on Sensex were ONGC down by 4.60 percent at Rs.1,181.35, HDFC Bank down by 3.83 percent at Rs.1,477.35 and Bharti Airtel down by 3.77 percent at Rs.834.05.
