5.6 lakh tourists visited India in October

New Delhi : About 5.63 lakh tourists visited India in October, an 11 percent increase over the same period last year, an official said here Tuesday.

In October last year, 5.07 lakh tourists had visited the country, while 4.59 lakh visited in the same period in 2009.

“There has been a growth of 11 percent in October 2011 over October 2010 as compared to a growth of 10.5 percent registered in October 2010 over October 2009,” the official added.

The Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEE) during October was Rs.7,019 crore.

According to a statement, as many as 49.38 lakh foreign tourists visited India from January to October this year. The number was 44.87 in the same period last year.

Around 5.58 million foreigners visited the country in 2010, as compared to 5.17 million during 2009.

“The foreign earning from tourism in rupee terms during January-October was Rs.60,780 crore with a growth of 18.4 percent as compared to the earning of Rs.51,334 crore with a growth of 21.1 percent during the same period last year,” the statement added.
