Tehran : Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili said on Thursday that his country had been trying to be transparent over the disputed nuclear program, meanwhile accusing the West of taking the nuclear case to the UN Security Council.
“As a member of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has tried to be transparent on the nuclear case,” Jalili told reporters at a press conference held in Tehran’s Supreme National Security Council, in reaction to a long awaited report released by IAEA chief Mohammad ElBaradei one hour ago.
The top Iranian nuclear official said Tehran had “responded positively to European package (over the nuclear program),” while slamming at the Western move to send Iran’s nuclear case to the UN Security Council (UNSC).
“Reference of Iran’s case to UNSC has been proved futile…it’s useless for the Iranian people to get their rights,” he stressed.
The press briefing was scheduled to be held on Thursday morning. However, it was postponed until evening due to the 24-hour delay of ElBaradei’s report which was supposed to be released on Wednesday.
The UN atomic watchdog issued a report over Tehran’s cooperation on the nuclear program in Vienna one hour ago, saying “Iran has made substantial progress in revealing the nature and extent of its disputed nuclear program, but needs to be more pro-active in providing information.”
