Agra : The identity of those holding secret accounts in Swiss banks cannot be revealed till prosecution proceedings start, a senior official said here Tuesday.
Union Finance and Revenue Secretary R.S. Gujral told media persons here that the identity of those who hold secret accounts cannot be revealed because of the “secrecy commitment” with the foreign banks.
“Once court proceedings start, the names will be in public domain,” Gujral said on the sidelines of a conference on drugs.
Gujral was referring to 700 HSBC account holders in a Swiss bank, whose names are believed to be with the Indian government.
