Admiral William Fallon, Commander of the US Central Command, addressing a conference of the Arab business council, said political and security stability in the Middle East was key to economic stability and development.

He said security and political stability was key for investors worldwide.

Fallon said US forces were deployed in many parts of the world to provide security, and protect the American citizens in these parts including the Middle East region.

Turning to Iraq, Fallon noted improvement in the security situation in the past four months thus encouraging the US government to consider reduction of its forces.

Fallon, had earlier met with Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Abul Gheit and discussed the situation in the Middle East and Iraq.

Fallon informed Abul Gheit that the improvement in the security conditions in Iraq was encouraging the Americans to leave the country in parallel to developing the capabilities of the Iraqi army.
