Moscow : The newly adopted UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution on Syria reflected some countries’ intentions to promote unilateral approaches to the Syrian crisis, according to the Russian foreign ministry.
Russia has been opposed to holding such “urgent debates” in the UN Human Rights Council from the very beginning, Xinhua quoted the Russian foreign ministry as saying in a statement Thursday.
“Russia believes the resolution does not send constructive signals that are necessary for launching a process of political and diplomatic settlement, nor a call to all sides to stop violence and join the national dialogue,” the statement said.
“The discussion and the draft resolution have confirmed persistent intentions of several countries to promote unilateral politicised approaches to what is happening in that country,” it added.
Earlier Thursday, Russia and China voted against the UN Human Rights Council resolution on Syria which condemned the Syrian authorities.
