457 sick industrial units in Kashmir: Minister

Jammu : There are 457 sick industrial units in Jammu and Kashmir, the state legislative council was told Thursday.

Of the 457 industrial units, 368 units are in the Kashmir valley and 89 in Jammu, said Minister of State for Finance Manohar Lal in reply to a question

Under the government’s rehabilitation policy for sick industrial units, such units deemed potentially viable by the State Level Rehabilitation Committee (SLRC) have been given soft loans at 1 percent interest subject to maximum of Rs.30 lakh.

“Rs.69.42 lakh have been sanctioned for Jammu region under the scheme out of which Rs.5.5 lakh have been disbursed till ending of January 2012. Similarly, Rs.801.31 lakh have been sanctioned for Kashmir region out of which Rs.364.07 lakh stands disbursed during the same period,” Lal said.

To revitalise industrial activities in the state, the prime minister’s task force has recommended setting up of a fund of Rs.100 crore by the government for implementing a special rehabilitation package for the identified sick units.

There are about 25,000 industrial units in Jammu and Kashmir including 150 large and medium scale units and rest small-scale — 11,300 are in Jammu region and the rest in the Kashmir Valley.
