New Delhi : India Saturday underlined its commitment to the ongoing transformation of South Asia and asked the private sector to play a greater role in regional integration.
India’s approach to its neighbours is predicated on the need to maintain a peaceful, stable and prosperous neighbourhood, Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed said at the end of the two-day conference on South Asia.
“We are convinced that vibrant regional cooperation is good for everyone,” said Ahamed while stressing that India is consciously pursuing a role in transforming the region.
“The government of India will do whatever it can do to enhance cooperation in South Asia to deliver on peace and prosperity in the region,” he said.
The private sector needs to show greater involvement in regional integration, he stressed.
Over 30 scholars, experts and formed diplomats participated in the the third edition of the Asian Relations Conference on “Transforming South Asia: Imperatives for action” at Sapru House.
The conference was organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and the Association of Asian Scholars.
The two-day seminar culminated in a blueprint for action which will facilitate greater regional integration and economic cohesion in the region. The recommendations of the conference will be presented for consideration by the SAARC ministerial conference which will be held later this year.
