Facebook posting leads to protest in Parbhani

Mumbai: Hundreds of Muslim gathered in Parbhani, a district in Maharashtra to protests against the blasphemous pictures and comments posted on facebook on Wednesday.

“The situation might have gone out of control but collective efforts of Ulemas, activists and leaders came to make it peaceful,” said Najmul Hasan, President of Movement for Peace and Justice-MPJ- Parbhani.

“It is in the afternoon of Wednesday when we came to know about the issue, hundreds of youth gathered to protest but I along with Maulana Rafiuddin Ashrafi President Ahle Sunnat wal Jamat, Marathwada and Engineer Rashid, Member All India Muslim Personal Law Board met the collector Mr.Wankhede, added Najmul Hasan.”

Understanding the sensitivity of the matter Wankhede, assured them of necessary action. Local Police acted quickly to take action against the culprits. “On the order of the collector a police officer of Nanalpeth became a complainant, filed an FIR against the accused Ishwardas and others who commented defamatory remarks, under section 295, 66A and 67,” said Najmulhasan.

Ishwardasfrom Chisti, Gujarat based in Canada posted a picture of Prophet and his wife on Facebook while other accused Arvind Malik, Ganesh Bargar, Ratan Singh, Vivek Asame, Kashinath and Sahlesh Singhal posted defamatory comments and are the co accused named in the FIR.

Some Individuals are also planning to complaint against Facebook in the case. “Will Facebook allow anti-Semitic posts? Freedom of expression does not mean that you can abuse someone” added Najmul Hasan.
