Congress ultimatum goads Koda into action

Ranchi (IANS) : An ultimatum by the Congress to perform or perish has spurred Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda into action. He is now reviewing the progress of different departments and meeting police officials.

The Congress, a key partner in the ruling United Progressive Alliance, served a 60-day ultimatum to Koda Nov 15 to improve the law and order situation, the condition of roads and the dismal power scenario.

Kodi had then promised to act.

He appears to have kept his word. Koda has since then asked officials to perform or face the music. He has also met police officials to find ways to improve the law and order situation.

But the Congress is not satisfied.

Congress officials say there is no improvement on the law and order front and that the electricity supply continues to be dismal. Ranchi faces power cuts for at least 10 hours a day.

The potholed roads remain where they are, even in the state capital. The public distribution system, meant to provide the poor food at subsidised rates, is in a pathetic condition.

On Nov 26, when Koda held his first ‘janata darbar’ to get to know the people’s grievances first hand, large numbers met him. He received about 600 applications and redressed the grievances of 80 people that day.

Congress spokesperson Alok Dubey said: “We will review the Koda government’s performance after 60 days. We want Koda to deliver.

“The Koda government was formed to end the misrule of the National Democratic Alliance government and give good governance. But Koda has failed to change the scenario in the last one year,” Dubey said.
