Mumbai: High Alert has been declared in Mumbai and entire Maharashtra state when two people died and nearly 47 injured including 44 policemen and 3 Journalists when the protest demonstration called by Raza Academy against killings in Assam and Burma got violent on Saturday at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
The injured are admitted in JJ hospital and GT Hospital situated in South Mumbai.
RR Patil, Home Minister of Maharashtra said, “Situation is under control.” He urged the people not to get panic and not to participate in spreading rumors or believe in unauthentic SMSes.
Police, Rapid Action Force have reached the place and are patrolling the whole area.
Sushi Kumar Shinde, Union Home Minister said, “I have alerted the police force across the country to act against whoever spreads false information. I have spoken to the Maharashtra CM, the Deputy CM and the Commissioner of Police. Two deaths have been reported and 46 have been injured out of which, 36 are policemen. It’s been quiet in Assam the last three days. I request people not to give any false information.”
A protester blames police for violence, detained after TV interview
Some media reports say that the deaths have been caused by the police firing. A protestor with black armband was giving interview to P7 news channel. In the interview was blaming the police for violence. He said while thousands of people were attending the agitation the police came up and started firing in the air, then they lathi-charged the protestors without any reason. While he was talking to the P7 reporter, some policemen came up and took him away and arrested.
