SDPI demands parliamentary probe into Assam violence

Bangalore: The National Working Committee, (NWC), of Social Democratic Party of India, (SDPI), in a resolution at its Bangalore meeting on August 26 while condemning the violence in Assam has demanded a parliamentary probe into the perennial violence to identify the forces or groups responsible for the communal violence. It demanded to recommend measures to remove the communal virus as well as the role of the agencies of the government as well as the state government.

The NWC meeting, which was chaired by SDPI national president Mr. E. Aboobacker, also demanded that the provisions proposed in the Communal Violence Bill 2011 must be made parameters to provide relief and rehabilitation to the victims of violence particularly all the persons in relief camps must be resettled at their original place of abodes before the outbreak of violence without any further delay.

Another resolution adopted by the NWC strongly demanded a joint parliamentary commission in the matter of coal blocks allocation in which the Prime Minster is alleged to have played a role by his acts of omission or commission. It also demanded enquiry into the role of the Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states who also allegedly pressurised the Central Government to avoid public bidding of the Coal Blocks and also the role of a Chief Minister who exerted pressure to favour a particular industrial house over other in the allocation of Coal Blocks.

At the meeting yet another resolution expressed concern at the removal of Maharashtra Police Commissioner so as to save the skin of the state Home Minister following the violence at Azad Maidan on August 11 last after the peaceful protest meeting held in the backdrop of Assam communal violence. The resolution said it is a matter of grave concern that in spite of the CCTV camera footage wherein some persons were seen with weapons boarding at Kurla railway station and they alighted at CST near Azad Maidan. The police have till now arrested 48 persons who participated in the peaceful meeting but the real culprits are not being arrested, the resolution added.

In yet another resolution SDPI strongly condemned the repeated blasts in Pune and demanded a fair enquiry by the National Investigating Agency, (NIA). SDPI has also demanded that the government without delay make a constitutional amendment in favour of reservation in promotion of jobs for SC/ST in view of judicial pronouncement.

While NWC ratified a resolution forwarded by a sub-committee constituted to present a report on the Communal Violence Bill 2011. The sub-committee comprised of CR Imtiyaz (convenor), Adv. KP Mohammad Shareef and Adv. Sharfuddin Ahmad. The Sub-committee had unanimously resolved suggesting to pressurize the Central Government and members of the like-minded parties to make passage to pass the Bill in the ensuing session of Parliament without suggesting any amendment at this stage as comparative study of the Bill-2005, it was found that the Bill 2011 has very satisfactorily been improved and objections regarding the Federal structure as well as the autonomy of states has been taken care of by making provisions.

Meanwhile, Adv. Sajid Siddiqui of Bhopal was unanimously elected as the new national vice president of SDPI at the meeting. It was decided at the meeting that SDPI would contest the Lok Sabha bye-election from Jangipur constituency, represented by former Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who vacated the seat on being elected as President of India. The party also intends to contest Assembly elections in Karnataka next year and also in some other states where conditions are favourable.

It was also decided at the meeting that the party elections of SDPI shall commence from January 2013 and would be completed by March the same year.
