Nashik (Maharashtra): A court Tuesday remanded key 26/11 handler and suspected LeT terrorist Abu Jundal to police custody till Sep 24 for his alleged role in the conspiracy to attack a police academy here in 2010.
According to a Nashik court official, Jundal has been remanded to the custody of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) in a case of conspiracy to attack a police academy here as the ATS is probing his role in the case.
Jundal, who was sent to judicial custody by a Mumbai special court Monday, was brought to Nashik under a transit remand following which he was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate A.D. Sawant.
Jundal had reiterated his request to meet his parents in front of Sawant. However, the court did not pass any order on his plea.
Two other accused, Billal Shaikh and Himayat Beg, have already been arrested in this case and are currently held in judicial custody. Seven other accused are yet to be traced.
While seeking Jundal’s custody, the ATS said that Shaikh and Baig have revealed that they conducted a recee of the police academy in 2010.
Jundal was brought to Mumbai July 21 after a Delhi court handed over his custody to Mumbai Police here for his alleged role in the Mumbai terror attack.
On Aug 13, the court had remanded Jundal to the custody of ATS. He was earlier in the custody of the crime branch, where he also recorded his confessional statement reportedly providing all details of the entire operation of 26/11 terror attacks.
Hailing from Beed district near Aurangabad, Jundal sneaked into Bangladesh that month and later to Pakistan on a fake passport procured with help from some Lashkar-e-Taiba activists.
Jundal was working in Saudi Arabia before being deported to India in June. He was arrested by Delhi Police on arrival at the airport. A Delhi court later granted his custody to Maharashtra Police.
