For Mohun Bagan coach Bernard it was a revenge match and it couldn't have come at a much better time with Bhaichung Bhutia scoring a hat-trick and the talented Lalwmpuia netting one in the 38th minute of the game.

Bagan ended a lowly eight in the National League after the same Goan side defeated them 1-0 in their last league match. The win came as a sweet revenge and the Kolkata team also won a winner's prize of Rs.1 million.

All the goals came in the first half of the game that left Dempo look a hapless lot. Bhutia (8th, 19th, 39th) was at his best and mesmerised the rival defence.

Bagan were on the attacking mode right from the word go and got a chance as early as in the sixth minute when Jose Barretto, after being fed from the centre half by winger Lal Kamal Bhowmick, raced into the Dempo box but squandered the chance after goalie V.P. Sathish Kumar cut down his angle.

The Kolkata team drew the first blood in the eighth minute as Bhutia's right footer in the box got past Dempo goalie. The striker got a clinical pass from Brazilian Douglas and wasted no time and his shot was too hot for the Dempo custodian.

The lead was doubled in the 19th minute when Bhutia's header off Bhowmick's pass again foxed Kumar and left the rival defence in tatters.

The talented Lalwmpuia operating on the left flank was left unmarked when Manas Das took the corner in the 38th minute and the former headed into the net to make it 3-0 for the Bagan.

In the very next minute, Bhutia was again on target after he got a through pass in the Dempo box and it practically sealed the match in Bagan's favour.
