New Delhi : Though the Left and the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) have a “common cause” on farmer issues and opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal, there is “no question” of the two going together, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh Tuesday said.
Speaking to reporters after a UNPA seminar here, Amar Singh indicated that recent intensive parleys with Left leaders were not in “pursuit” of having a common platform in anticipation of early general elections.
“There is no question of UNPA and Left going together. We have no relations with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) or the National Democratic Alliance, but the Left is very much involved with the UPA,” Singh told reporters at a joint press conference.
“It’s not just us who are pursuing them. They also come to us on certain issues,” said Singh, asserting that the “pursuit” was not one-sided. “Prakash Karat had come to my house to brief us after talks over the nuclear deal,” he said.
