US Command in Iraq Reports Casualties

Baghdad : A US soldier died and other 11 were wounded during operations in the Iraqi northern Kirkuk, where there is a strong rebel movement.

In a communique, the US command explained on Saturday that the casualties were inflicted when vehicles that were transferring its troops activated mines placed on roads of the oil producing city.

The actions happened on Friday, and the wounded soldiers were transferred to a battle hospital of the foreign forces.

The US command in Iraq also confirmed that one of its soldiers died and other ten were wounded in a bomb attack in Kennan, in the Diyala province.

With these casualties the number of US troops that have died in Iraq since the beginning of the invasion in March, 2003, has reached 3,897, according to statistics accepted by the US Defense Department.

The Aswat al Iraq news agency reported on Saturday that a civilian died and another was seriously injured in a shooting by US soldiers in Amiriyat al Falluya, a city to the west of Baghdad.

Several witnesses told the media the incident happened on Friday night, when a group of soldiers that were patrolling the area shot a vehicle in which the two Iraqis were traveling.

After being shot, the car was stopped and checked by the soldiers, who did not find weapons or explosives.
