Pakistan aims to build peaceful neighbourhood, says Sharif

Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday that Islamabad is keen to build a “peaceful neighbourhood” with a policy of constructive engagement.

The prime minister addressed Pakistani diplomats at a conference where he said that his government’s priorities were to safeguard national interest, building a peaceful neighbourhood, and offering quality service to Pakistanis living abroad, Xinhua reported.

He highlighted Pakistan’s relationship with Afghanistan and India, the growing cooperation with China, ties with the Middle East and the Western nations.

On relations with India, Sharif said Pakistan remained committed to seeking peaceful resolutions to all disputes through sustained dialogue.

Sharif said the country’s internal policies are focused on peace talks with the Pakistani Taliban and efforts to deal with the crisis of power shortage.
