Beirut : Prime Minister Fuad Al-Siniora, in several phone calls with top Arab officials, said the Arab foreign ministers’ statement that was issued Sunday was paving the way for the resolution of the Lebanese presidential crisis to ultimately establish “healthy and sound” relations with Syria.
Siniora made phone calls with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem Al-Thani, foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Egypt’s Ahmad Abul Gheit and Oman’s Yusuf bin Alawi Abdullah, a statement by the Prime Minister’s office said.
Siniora thanked the officials on the big support they gave that produced a three-phase plan calling for election of Army Chief Michel Suleiman as a new president for Lebanon, the formation of a new national unity government, and starting a process for reforming the election law.
The support of the Arabs will contribute to the resolution of the Lebanese presidential conflict and will help establish “healthy and sound” relations with Syria, the statement quoted Siniora as saying.
Siniora underlined, in other phone calls with Lebanese officials, on the need of endorsing the three-phase plan to solve the presidential dispute.
