Baghdad : US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice held talks with the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki in Baghdad on Tuesday, upon arrival in the Iraqi capital.
Rice will later meet with President Jalal Talabani and senior Iraqi officials to discuss issues of common concern as well as the US support to the efforts by the Iraqi government for national reconciliation and reconstruction in the country, US Embassy Spokesperson Mirembe Natango told KUNA.
The talks will also address President George W. Bush’s current tour in the region and its impact on the neighbors’ support to the Iraqi government.
Natango stressed the significant role of Iraq’s neighboring countries for the progress taking part in the country, noting that Rice and her Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari would hold a news conference early in the afternoon, prior to ending the US official’s short visit to Baghdad.
