Hyderabad : More than 35,000 cadres of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) are attending the party’s plenary, which began here on Friday morning amid fanfare.
This is the first plenary by the party after it formed the first government in the newly created state of Telangana in June last year. The ruling party has made elaborate arrangements for 36,000 delegates at Lal Bahadur Stadium in the heart of the city.
The conclave, which began with cultural programmes, paid tributes to those who laid down their lives for separate state of Telangana.
The plenary will witness re-election of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as the party president.
It will pass 12 resolutions on various issues, discuss ways to strengthen the party and ensure better coordination between the party and the government.
The party has painted the city pink, the colour of the party flag, by erecting arches, flags, banners and cut-outs of its leaders.
In an attempt to make it a memorable jamboree, the TRS has decorated the city with 150 welcome arches, 1.25 lakh party flags and 50 lakh buntings. Ministers, MPs, state legislators and other public representatives from all 119 assembly constituencies are attending the plenary.
State Minister K. T. Rama Rao, who is son of the chief minister, said the plenary would discuss the welfare and development schemes in detail and would chalk out an action plan to achieve the goal of ‘golden Telangana’.
