A delegation of overseas Indians met Graham Brady, British Member of Parliament from Sale & Altrincham from Conservative Party to apprise him about the atrocities being committed on minorities and lower caste Hindus in the name of “cow protection” under the alleged patronage of Hindu Nationalist ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and its ideological right-wing allies.
Delegates gave the MP a list of people who were lynched to death on the rumors of cow smuggling and carrying or eating beef. MP Brady was surprised to know that India while being among the top exporters of beef overseas was putting a restriction on beef consumption in its territory.
It was pointed out that an atmosphere of hate was deliberately being created and Muslims were facing mob attacks in streets and trains on one pretext or the other on a daily basis. Delegates expressed concerns about the safety of their families back home and also how they were having second thoughts about travelling to India during summer holidays.
Delegation expressed anguish that state authorities are not doing enough to prevent such attacks and there seems a lack of administrative & political will to bring the criminals to justice due to their close proximity to the ruling party.
Delegates noted with dismay that even some law makers and ministers of BJP have made insensitive and irresponsible remarks towards victims of lynchings and justified killing of people who eat beef. State and central administration also made several attempts to dilute the cases against culprits and frame the victims and their families to alter the course of justice.
Brady was informed that organisations like Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which are pursuing a genocidal agenda against minorities in India are able to collect funds and operate in the UK freely in one name or the other. If these organisations had their way and not checked in time, the will unleash genocide and displacement of 20 million people which could be even bigger a calamity than Syria.
MP Brady promised the delegation to look into this matter as a matter of priority and raise it at the appropriate level through Home Office and Foreign Office.
