Towers to rise for Mahesh Yogi in 192 countries

London : Maharishi Mahesh Yogi may have retreated into spiritual meditation, but his legacy is set to continue in the concrete form of gigantic “Towers of Invincibility” in 192 countries, his followers said.

The Maharishi Tower of Invincibility (for Britain) was inaugurated in Rendlesham, Suffolk, on Jan 12 at 12 noon, the Maharishi Foundation said in a statement issued Tuesday. It will be 12-storeys tall.

Similar flag-raising ceremonies were held the same day in over 100 countries, including the 48 most affluent nations.

“This Maharishi Tower of Invincibility will stand as a perpetual memorial to the 50 years of Maharishi’s global achievements in creating an unshakeable foundation for invincibility for the world,” said Peter Warburton, chief administrator for Maharishi’s organisations in Britain.

The Maharishi, the one-time spiritual guru of the Beatles, announced Tuesday that he was retreating into near-silence after 50 years of running his ashram.

Warburton said the idea to establish the towers came “from the good news that there are more than enough experts trained in Maharishi’s peace-creating technologies of consciousness to raise the entire world to invincibility”.

“Maharishi’s great task is completed and the world will never be the same old suffering world,” he added.

The towers will be connected to the 48 centres of Total Knowledge – Brahmananda Saraswati Nagars – that are now under construction in India, the foundation said.

“This is where Maharishi Vedic pandits will maintain coherence in world consciousness through their daily performance of Maharishi’s technologies of consciousness, including Transcendental Meditation, Yogic Flying, and Yagyas,” Warburton said.

Meanwhile, the Maharishi’s press spokesman in Britain told IANS that the news of the guru’s retreat has been greeted with great excitement in Britain, where his transcendental meditation (TM)-inspired Natural Law Party regularly contested general elections – never once winning a seat.

“This is extremely exciting… it’s so invigorating,” Charles Cunningham said on the telephone.

“He’s never been happier. The world is becoming a better place.”
