Lucknow : Four people died due to heat wave in eastern and southern Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll to 14 over 48 hours to Monday evening, even as the mercury that had soared to 46.2 degrees Celsius in Varanasi Sunday came down by three degrees.
The toll since the onset of summer touched to 26, said an official spokesman here.
Varanasi, Deoria, Kanpur, Kaushambi, Banda, Chitrakoot and Orai were the worst affected districts in the state.
State capital Lucknow touched this summer's highest temperature of 44.5 degrees Sunday, followed by 42.4 Monday.
