Aligarh: Taken aback by the unexpected move of the Maharashtra government not to appeal against the acquittal of prime accused in the 1992-1993 Mumbai riots case, several social, academic and political organizations are pressing both the state and Union government to correct their failings.

The Intellectuals’ Forum for Secular Democracy (IFSD) and Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) of Aligarh held a joint meeting on 2nd February in Aligarh.
They passed a resolution in connection with Maharashtra government’s affidavit filed in the Supreme Court regarding non-implementation of the Srikrishna Commission Report on the Mumbai riots.

The organizations demanded that all those responsible for the riots should be punished according to the law of the land and in the light of the findings of the Srikrishna Commission.

They have also demanded that the UPA Government should take note of Vilasrao Deshmukh government’s act of filing uncalled for affidavit and should take corrective measures.

The IFSD and MBMC will hold a daylong dharna (sit-in) at Jantar- Mantar in New Delhi in the second week of March if the affidavit is not withdrawn and steps for the punishment of the guilty in Mumbai riots are not taken.
