“Nearly 20 people died and 100 others were severely wounded when two bombs went off in crowed area near the Bossaso port,” said Abdiqani Isse, an eyewitness in Bossaso, over phone.

Bossaso is the commercial capital of the semi-autonomous Somali state of Puntland.

Doctors at Bossaso hospital confirmed the figures and said they had been on duty all night to attend to the injured.

The Ethiopians are part of hundreds of migrants in the region hoping to sail across the Gulf of Aden to Yemen then to the other Gulf states in search of jobs.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosions and authorities said an investigation into the blasts was underway.
