Chennai : Five students from three southern states are the finalists of British Council’s Indian Climate Champions 2008.
The five students were selected from 171 applications received across south India by a panel of eminent judges, said Anish Kumarswamy of the British Council. The students were selected on the basis of their idea strength from their submitted essays and ability to effectively communicate their views.
On Feb 28, the children will be in Delhi to compete with 15 other finalists to choose three winners to represent India at meetings in London and Kobe as environment ambassadors.
The five south Indian finalists are: Agastya Muthana from Mallya Aditi International School, Bangalore; Ann Raymond from Bhavans Vidya Mandir, Kochi; Archana Jayraman from Sri Sankara Senior Secendary School, Chennai; Jaswanth Madhavan from Padma Seshadri Balabhavan Senior Secendory School, Chennai and Shruti K.N. from Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Chennai.
The climate champions “in office” term will be throughout 2008 and conclude in August 2009. They will participate in developing a plan to spread the word about climate change in their hometown or city.
