New Delhi: A delegation of ‘All India Ulema Board’ today met with general secretary of All India Congress Committee Rahul Gandhi and presented him a letter containing their three-point demands. The delegation comprising several distinguished Ulema and dignitaries including president of Wahdat-e-Millat Council (Delhi) Maulana Mehdi al-Qasimi, its general secretary Mu’azzam Ali Laddoo, secretary Shakeel Khan and general secretary of Basharat Academy (Mumbai) Maulana Abdul ‘Allam Siddiqui was led by the Board’s general secretary ‘Allama Bani Na’eem Hasani. The leader of the delegation ‘Allama Bani Na’eem Hasani told Mr. Rahul Gandhi that about four lakhs religious Madrasas in the length and breadth of the country are busy in educating children under the patronage of renowned Ulema. In these Madrasas, most of the needs of students, like lodging, dress, books, stationery and even medicine at some places, are made available. HE said to Mr. Rahul, “we want that electricity and water should be supplied to these Madrasas free of cost and students hailing from far flung areas should be given concession in traveling fare.”

The delegation also placed its demand before Mr. Rahul Gandhi to secure the status of an autonomous organization for the Hajj Committee and to give representation in it to eminent Ulema, since Hajj is a religious duty. Vocalizing its third demand, the leader of the delegation said a separate ministry should be formed for Muslim Awkaf and the income accruing from these Awkaf should be spent on Muslim students studying in schools, colleges and Madrasas besides making arrangement out of it to fetch some assistance to handicapped and poor persons. Late on, the delegation told that Mr. Rahul Gandhi listened to their demands attentively and fully assured to implement their demands.
