New Delhi : Giant killer Navdeep Singh of India moved into the quarter-finals of the ITF Men’s Futures F2 tournament at the R K Khanna Stadium Wednesday.
Navdeep, who stunned top seed Im Kyu Tae in the first round, defeated fellow Indian Divij Sharan 6-4, 7-5 to reach the last eight. He will now meet Alexey Kedryuk, who beat eighth-seeded Karan Rastogi 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 in a tight clash.
Another Indian making the quarters was Rohan Gajjar, who beat Taipei’s Hsien-Yin Peng 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7) in another close match. Gajjar will meet third seed Guillermo Alcaide of Spain. Alcaide beat Vaja Uzakov 6-7 (9), 6-3, 6-3.
Vinod Sridhar went down to Peng Sun of Taipei 6-4, 2-6, 2-6 and Vuvek Shokeen lost to Alexander Satschko of Germany 7-5, 4-6, 6-7 (5) in second round matches.
India’s top seeded doubles pairing Purav Raja and Mustafa Ghouse entered the semi-finals beating Lee Hsin-Han Yang Tsung-Hua of Taipei 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-8 with the match going into the super tie-break. They will meet fellow Indians Vivek Shokeen and Ashutosh Singh, who beat Vinod Sridhar and Vishnu Vardhan 7-6(5), 7-6 (6).
Also making the semis was Kamla Kannan of India partnering Kazhak Alexey Kedryuk who beat Aqueel Khan and Yannich Nelord 6-4, 6-4. They will now meet Todor Enev of Bulgaria and David Savic of Serbia.
