Up to 15 Palestinians killed in wide-scale Israeli incursion – sources

By NNN-KUNA

Gaza : An Israeli incursion into the eastern fringes of Gaza city and Jabaliya on Saturday resulted in the death of at least 15 Palestinians, medical sources said in an updated report.

The sources said Israeli warplanes fired missiles in the direction of a group of civilians on Al-Qarm Street east of Jabaliya inflicting a number of deaths and injuries.

More than 15 Palestinians were killed and 35 others were hospitalized as a result of Israeli attacks and Israeli-Palestinian clashes in the northern part of Gaza, they said.

Intensive gunfire east of Jalalia has prevented medics from reaching injured Palestinians who are bleeding without any attention, and Israeli snipers positioned on rooftops east of Gaza are shooting at any moving object.

A large number of Palestinian fighters are engaging the assaulting Israeli troops at several axes, amid overflights by Israeli aircaft, firing missiles.

A spokesman of the Israeli Army told Israel Radio the Israeli troops were involved in a wide-scale military operation near Gaza city and Jabaliya, and indicated that paratroopers were also taking part in the action.

The operation is intended to locate the infrastructure of Palestinian factions that have been involved in attacking Israeli targets with missiles.

Eziddin Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, said in a statement its gunners fired a pair of missiles in the direction of the Israeli town of Sderot, and that the rockets were unleashed despite intensive overflights by “enemy aircraft.”

The group said a field commander of the organization, named Abdel Hamid Hamadeh, was killed in the armed confrontations against the Israeli forces northeast of Gaza city.

The spokesman of the Israeli Army said up to 16 missiles were fired in the direction of several Israeli towns and settlements in the south of Israel today, inflicting damage.
