Geneva : Iraqi Vice Minister for Human Rights Hussein Jasim Nasser Al-Zuhairi has said that there has been security improvements since March 2007, at a rate of 60 to 80 per cent with the exception of some hot spot areas.
Addressing the Human Rights Council Tuesday, he added that the improvement in the security situation has affected positively the situation of displacement and asylum seeking.
He said that many Iraqis have returned to areas where security has improved.
The Iraqi official invited the High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour to visit Iraq this year and expressed hope that such a visit will usher a new era of cooperation between Iraq and the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
