Ford to supply cars to central government departments

Chennai : Ford India Pvt Ltd announced Monday that it has got approval from the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D), the central government’s purchase and quality assurance organisation, for supplying its Ford Ikon Flair to government departments.

In the past, Ford India was supplying its sports utility vehicle (SUV) Endeavour and car Fiesta to various government and public sector undertakings in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.

Speaking about the DGS&D approval, Scott McCormack, Ford India’s vice-president for marketing, sales and service, said: “Fleet sales operations form an integral part of our aggressive sales program. We will keep the product appealing to new consumer segments.”

Meanwhile, in view of the four percent cut in the excise duty on small cars in the union budget 2008, the company announced a price reduction on the Ford Fusion diesel by Rs.22,000.

The revised price for the Ford Fusion’s diesel variant is Rs.643,500 (ex-showroom, Chennai) effective from March 1, 2008.
