Washington : US Republican and Democrat representatives discussed a hard-handed migratory measure against people in the US without documents, an initiative similar to that fostered by conservative senators.

The project presented Tuesday by Congressman Heath Shuler (D,NC) focused on security and has more than 140 supporters, almost 50 percent of whom are Democrats.

The Democratic Party leadership, feeling pressure from legislators elected from anti-immigrant districts who are up for election in November, want to approve a special measure with 218 signatures, rather than through the usual legislative process.

Parallel to this, several Republican senators are fostering a group of anti-migration measures.

Alabama legislator Jeff Sessions announced a package of 12 projects, including prison terms for those who cross the border illegally, participation of local police in the application of migratory laws, denying funds to so-called “sanctuary cities” on the borders and reducing highway funds for states giving driving licenses to non-legal residents.

Clarissa Martinez, analyst from the National Race Council, said these measures again demonstrate that the Republican Party is against illegal immigrants and the Latin-born community.
